If there’s one thing that Hollywood does well, it’s turning out in style for glittering award ceremonies. This years Golden Globes was no exception, with the big names in film and television hitting the red carpet in their designer finest. Returning as host for the big event was comedian Ricky Gervais, though he’d noticeably toned down some of his more risque jokes after getting into hot water last year for flying rather close to the wind with his potshots at some of the celebrity guests.
Big winners on the night included the black and white silent film The Artist, actors George Clooney and Meryl Streep and Director Martin Scorsese. Britain’s very own Downton Abbey took home the gong for best mini-series, much to the delight of its writer and creator Julian Fellowes. Kate Winslet and Idris Elba also kept up the British end with awards for their acting talent.
